On behalf of BruSheff
Concluded our 2017/18 Academic Year with a Leaver’s Dinner in appreciation of our graduating seniors. Here’s to wishing them all the best in their future endeavours!
This is the first training workshop for The Brunei Students’ Union’s council members, society leaders and their executive committees, facilitated by our guest host, Yang Berhormat Dayang Khairunnisa binti Awang Haji Ash’ari, Member of the Legislative Council, and Co-Founder and Community Engagement Director of Green Brunei. This workshop aims to meet the target of fostering a sense of professionalism within the young leaders so that the administration of their respective societies is characterized by great skill and competence. This will be a more individualized form of preparation, intending to inspire leadership qualities and energy within individual participant, as a complement to the upcoming Presidential Conference. The conference, which will be held in mid-August, will then take on a more administrative model, where society leaders will be engaged in a dialogue pertaining to the bureaucratic reality of running their societies. The BSU Training Workshop would, hence, equip these leaders with the skills and mindset vital to the administration of a successful society beginning from the conference onwards.

The UK Radiological Congress and Radiation and Oncology Congress (UKRC) is an annual event co-hosted by the UKRC and UKRO presidents that consists of a three-day multidisciplinary scientific congress and technical exhibitions joined by thousands of people from across imaging background to showcase the state-of-the-art equipment and services available.
This year, the theme was focusing on how new technologies and techniques have been adopted within radiological imaging and radiation oncology, to improve our techniques and optimise patient care and experience.
The congress took place in Manchester at the Manchester Convention Centre running from 12-14 June 2017.
Student Activity:
A group of four final year Bruneian students from Exeter were awarded a Dean’s fund from their University (University of Exeter) to attend the three-day congress in Manchester this year.
The students displayed their University research project poster titled “The effect of Exposure Index (EI) on the subjective analysis of image quality” which had been accepted to be part of the congress.
The student’s research poster was chosen out of 150 poster submissions as one of the the runners up (2nd place) for best research/scientific poster by the UKRC committee.
One of the students (Siti Nurshahira Aboo Samah) accepted the runner up prize given by Maryann Hardy (UKRC president) and Professor Robert Winston (Research Professor in Imperial College London) at the end of the closing ceremony on Wednesday 14 June 2017.
The students engaged and gained ideas and knowledge with exhibitors present during the congress about various topics related to radiological imaging as well as attended sessions that had key-note speakers such as the Society of Radiographers President that could help bring new ideas and suggestions back to Brunei on the up-to-date research and equipment used in the digital imaging field.
The benefits/insights gained from the activity:
By joining the congress, the students gained insight and knowledge from the myriad research conducted by other exhibitors. The students are also up-to-date with the technological advancements available such as different type of equipment widely used in the UK hospitals and how it can be utilised to improve service efficiencies, as these might be the future for radiographers especially for Brunei radiographers.
Furthermore, the student’s engagement with radiographers from different backgrounds (such as CT radiographers, MRI radiographers and sonographers) could improve network between UK and Brunei Radiographers to exchange new ideas in improving healthcare.

This is held in celebration of the 50th year or Golden Jubilee of His Majesty the Sultan’s reign as monarch. So artists, this is your opportunity to manifest your spirit of patriotism into a piece of your own!
This competition will require participants to first conceptualise a 3D model symbolising an aspect of His Majesty’s reign. This could be something to signify His Majesty himself, a momentous occasion during his reign, the prosperous Brunei that His Majesty has brought about, the development of Brunei student’s unit in the UK or anything at all that would be pertinent to the grand occasion – let your creativity run wild.
This design should be detailed in the proposal form, which can be found here:
> DesignCompetitionProposal
Among the things that should be considered are:
The proposal form should then be submitted to vp.admin@bsunion.org by 26th July 2017 at 11.59am Brunei time.
These proposals would then go through a selection process by the Brunei Students’ Unit. The selected participants, announced on 1st August 2017, would then be given the opportunity to construct the piece in its actual three-dimensional form.
Hence, once again, it is important that participants have assessed the feasibility of and their capability in doing so.
The deadline to produce this model is will be announced further in the competition & the winner will then have their product showcased in addition to winning a cash prize!
Registration is free and open to all Bruneian students in the UK. You may enter as an individual participant or as a team of a maximum of five members. Though the latest date to submit your proposal is 26th July, we would like you to express your interest by 3rd July 2017 by filling in this form:
