The Brunei Religious Officers Student Assocation (BruROSA) and Brunei Students’ Union in the UK & Eire (BSUnion) have recently organized an interactive talk series titled Youth Empowerment: Unlocking Your True Potential, Change Starts Within at multiple Sixth Form Centres across the Brunei-Muara District. The targeted schools include Maktab Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah, Pusat Tingkatan Enam Meragang & Pusat Tingkatan Enam Sengkurong.

As part of a community outreach initiative taken by both associations, the aim of the talk is to inspire and motivate students for their upcoming exams as well as to help give a strong footing and foundation to practice Islam at its core. Students were able to do a reflection of their past actions to help make good choices and overcome challenges in the future.

The events commenced with the recitation of surah Al-Fatihah by Awang Muhammad Umair Akmal bin Hj Noor Ahsffian, President of BruROSA 2017/18 and opening remarks by Ak Muhammad Aqil bin Pengiran Jaya, Vice-President for Administration & Finance of BSUnion 2017/18.

The speakers include an array of Bruneian students currently and previously studying in the UK whom are willing to share their experiences in the quest to help inspire students to strive and build a better future together. They are Ak Muhammad Aqil bin Pg Jaya from Imperial College London, Md Umair Akmal bin Hj Noor Ahsffian from University of Kent, Rasyidahatul binti PB Hj Abu Bakar from University of Essex, Md Zulfan Farhi bin Hj Sulaini from University of Leicester, Muhd Aiman Syafiq bin Hj Ramlee from University College London, Muhd Wazien Naufal bin Awg Azmain, graduate from University of Leicester and Muhammad Hamizan bin Hj Zaini, graduate of Imperial College London and founder of BruROSA.

The talks from each of the speakers create perspective – taking into account the challenges they have faced and are currently facing as a student. This was done in a deeply personal way and ultimately provides a space where students were able to open up and talk about their struggles. The results were truly emotional, heartwarming and empowering. This was also smoothly achieved through sharing sessions in small groups and meaningful games.

The events concluded with the recitation of doa penutup by Awang Muhammad Umair Akmal bin Hj Noor Ahsffian, President of BruROSA 2017/18. BruROSA and The Brunei Students’ Union aim to conduct more talks and activities in the future across schools and institutions all over the country.
